The S stands for extra smooth. When this line slides through your fingers, its surface smoothness is barely distinguishable from that of a monofilament line. This is also a pure braided line without a coating, which is known to become rough or wear off after a short time and make the line unusable. This smoothness is achieved by using an extremely fine UHMWPE fiber combined with a braiding process in which the individual fibers are divided into and braided from considerably more strands than was previously possible. This multi-strand process also increases the braid angles. The fibers are bent slightly less than in Type R, while maintaining the same roundness, compactness, and internal strength. As a result, Type S offers somewhat higher tensile strength. Unfortunately, the very fine UHMWPE fibers and the braiding process with many strands also come at a premium price. Nevertheless, Type S is intended for applications where only the very best material is good enough. Special features: smooth surface, line release, suppleness, tensile strength.
