The SIRIUS 3RW40 soft starters are characterized primarily by their compact design. Integrated bypass contacts prevent power losses in the power semiconductors (thyristors) after the motor has ramped up. This reduces heat losses, allows a more compact design, and eliminates the need for external bypass circuits. The soft starter also offers integrated additional functions such as adjustable current limiting, motor overload protection, device self-protection, and optional thermistor motor protection. These functions become increasingly important as motor power increases because they eliminate the need to purchase and install additional protective devices, such as overload relays. The internal device self-protection prevents thermal overloading of the thyristors and the resulting defects in the power section. The thyristors can optionally also be protected against short circuits with semiconductor fuses. Thanks to integrated status and fault monitoring, this compact soft starter offers extensive diagnostic options. Up to four LEDs and relay outputs enable differentiated monitoring and diagnosis of the drive by indicating the operating status and, for example, a mains or phase failure, missing load, impermissible tripping time/class setting, thermal overload, or device fault. Soft starters with a power rating of up to 250 kW at 400 V are available for standard applications in three-phase networks.
