Description

  • Right-hand-wind springs are mounted to the left of center when viewed from inside the garage.
  • Dimensions: 0.6 cm wire size x 5.1 cm inside diameter x 50.8 cm length; orange color code.
  • Installation: For dual-spring installations, correctly install both left- and right-hand-wind springs during the same service.
  • Includes stationary and winding cones; replacement requires using or purchasing Prime-Line part GD 52238 and understanding wire size and winding direction.
  • Typical service life: 10,000 cycles of opening or closing the garage door.
  • Matching left-hand-wind torsion spring: Prime-Line part GD 12316.
  • Note: Verify this spring's dimensions and compare them with your existing spring before ordering.

This torsion spring is made of steel and includes a stationary cone and a winding cone attached to opposite ends of the spring. These torsion springs provide lifting force for heavy garage doors and must be selected according to spring dimensions rather than door weight. Refer to the product specifications and illustrations in Prime-Line's torsion spring selection guide to help ensure the correct replacement spring is selected. For dual-spring installations, using the correct left- and right-hand-wind springs is essential. When a dual-spring installation is involved, both springs should be replaced, since replacing only one spring can increase the load on the older, unreplaced spring. This is a standard spring with an expected service life of 10,000 cycles. As an important safety precaution, all defective or damaged hardware should be replaced with matching hardware without modifications. Garage door torsion springs can cause serious injury if handled or installed incorrectly. If you attempt to replace the torsion springs yourself, do not attempt to disassemble or adjust them with any tool other than Prime-Line part GD 52238. Failure to use Prime-Line part GD 52238 when replacing these springs can result in serious personal injury. These winding bars are used to wind and unwind tension on torsion springs and are the only tools recommended for this purpose. Note: To determine the winding direction, look at the end of the spring with the spring's wire at the top of the winding. If the end of the spring is at the 12 o'clock position and points to the left, the spring is right-hand wind; if the end points to the right while positioned at 12 o'clock, it is left-hand wind.
