About gauge blocks: Gauge blocks were invented in 1896 by Swedish mechanic Carl Edvard Johansson. They are used as references for calibrating measuring instruments in machine shops, such as micrometers, sine bars, calipers, and micrometers when used for inspections. Gauge blocks are an important means of standardizing lengths in industry. Product details: Each parallel is 100 mm long and 4 mm thick. The set includes heights of 10, 14, 18, 22, 26, 30, 34, 38, and 42 mm. The parallelism is 0.005 mm, and the hardness is HRC 5862. The set is packaged in a wooden case. Usage tips: Remove the blocks from the set, clean off their protective coating of petroleum jelly or oil, and screw them together into a stack of the desired size. The blocks are calibrated precisely at 20C (68F) and should be kept at this temperature during measurement to reduce the effects of thermal expansion. Whenever possible, wear-resistant blocks made of a harder material, such as tungsten carbide, should be placed at the ends of the stack to protect the gauge block from damage during use.
