The Osmond AS5048 provides PWM output and an SPI or unspecified interface for absolute angle measurement with microcontrollers. Instead of accounting for the chip's initial zero position and the exact assignment of the magnet poles during mechanical construction, the zero position can be programmed into the AS5048's internal memory using simple SPI or unspecified interface commands; no special programming equipment is required. The AS5048 also has very high operating tolerances, including deviations in the centered position between the chip and the opposing magnet, deviations in the air gap between the chip and opposing magnet, and temperature fluctuations from -40C to +150C. The AS5048 magnetic rotary encoder provides more precise measurements than previous magnetic rotary encoders from austriamicrosystems. Its analog 14-bit front end enables measurement resolutions of up to 0.0219. Through linearization and averaging by the microcontroller, angle measurements with an accuracy of 0.05 can be achieved.
