Six dried pampas grass stems, each approximately 70 cm long. This length is suitable for tabletop vases and medium-sized vessels; for a floor vase, choose the 110 cm version. The stem itself is the flower head, made up of thousands of fine hairs that create its feathery texture. Fresh from the packaging, it is dense and closed; after a few days in a dry environment, it fans out and reaches its full volume. Thirteen colors are available. Natural is the undyed shade between beige and light brown; bleached and cream are lighter, while the other ten range from taupe, red, and orange to purple and black. When mixing colors, it is best to stay with two or three shades; six stems in one color look more orderly than six different colors. Six stems fill a narrow tabletop vase. In a larger vessel, they look sparse when standing individually, so two packs are recommended. Pampas grass sheds fine hairs over time, especially during the first month and in drafts. To reduce this, spray the stem once with hairspray; this helps but is not a permanent solution. Dried pampas grass does not wilt and requires no water. Stored in a dry place, it lasts for years; direct sunlight will fade the color over time. To shorten it, simply use garden shearsthe stem is hollow and can be cut cleanly. The package contains six stems; vase not included. Density, length, and color shade vary naturally. Combined with dried grasses, oats, and wheat, it creates a bouquet that lasts from late summer into November. If left displayed over winter, move it to a different location, as the stalks dry out and become brittle near a heater. Pampas grass originates in South America and is widely used as an ornamental grass. The pampas grass sold commercially is specifically cultivated for this purpose and cut in late summer before the seeds mature.
