The D-shape transfers most of the load to the carabiner's major axis, which is more resistant. The wire gate enables easier, smoother clipping and is longer than conventional gates. The low weight of the wire gate makes it less susceptible to the gate flutter phenomenon, in which irregular forces from a climbing rope or contact with hard surfaces during a fall can open the gate.
