Blind rivets, also called mandrel rivets or pull-mandrel rivets, enable firm connections between several sheets or metal components, even when they are accessible from only one side. They consist of two components: the rivet and an additional mandrel. The top of the rivet has a flat head. Inside, this fastener is hollow and contains a long mandrel, which also has a head at its lower end. The mandrel shaft additionally features a predetermined breaking point, which enables the blind-rivet principle. A pre-drilled hole must be present in the substrate for installation. The rivet is passed through this hole, and the protruding end is pulled outward with a blind-rivet tool. This deforms the blind rivet and forms a bulge on the rear side of the components being joined. Once this has happened, the mandrel breaks at the predetermined breaking point, creating a firm connection.
