The UV filter blocks the invisible UV component of skylight, which can reduce sharpness and cause many color films to develop a bluish cast. UV filters are ideal for landscape photography in the mountains, by the sea, and in areas with very clean air. Images gain brilliance, and distracting bluish haze is avoided. Since the glass is colorless, it neither changes color rendition nor requires a longer exposure, apart from eliminating the bluish cast. The UV filter is therefore also suitable for protecting the front lens element from windblown sand, seawater spray, and similar hazards, and can remain on the lens continuously. It is recommended for analog color, black-and-white, and digital photography.
