A tsuba is usually a round, and occasionally square or squarish, guard at the end of the grip of a bladed Japanese weapon. It contributes to the weapon's balance and helps protect the hand. The tsuba was primarily intended to prevent the hand from sliding onto the blade during thrusts, rather than to protect against an opponent's blade. The kashira is the end cap, or pommel, on the tsuka. The fuchi is a cap-type collar or ferrule covering the opening of the tsuka; the sword's tang passes through the fuchi into the tsuka. Menuki are ornaments on the tsuka, generally positioned beneath the tsuka-ito, and are intended to fit into the palm for grip. This copper tsuba is available in the T16T32 range.
