8 mm clear tempered glass panels, custom-cut up to 80 440 cm (800 4,400 mm), with ground and polished edges and blunted corners. The tempered glass complies with DIN standards and is resistant to bending and impact. A glass-edge stamp identifies the tempered glass. Tempered safety glass is thermally toughened, making it considerably stronger than ordinary glass, particularly against impact and bending. It is also less sensitive when, for example, hot objects are placed on a glass table top. If it breaks, tempered glass shatters into small glass granules, helping to minimize the risk of injury. For these reasons, tempered glass is used for table tops and as glass panels for door and window infill. Tempered glass must not be further processed after manufacture, for example by drilling or sawing.
