Tempered safety glass is thermally toughened, making it considerably more stable than ordinary glass and particularly more resistant to impact and bending loads. It is also less sensitive when hot objects, for example, are placed on a glass tabletop. In the event of breakage, tempered glass crumbles into small glass particles, minimizing the risk of injury. For these reasons, tempered safety glass is used, for example, for tabletops and as glass panels for door and window infill. Tempered glass must not be further processed after manufacture, such as by drilling or sawing.
