Application method: 1. Place the coating device on a completely level test surface and set the doctor-blade gap to twice the desired wet-film thickness. 2. Pour a small amount of the test sample between the end plates at the front of the coating blade. Move the instrument across the surface at a slow, even speed of approximately 12 cm per second until the liquid has been completely applied and/or any remaining liquid has been removed from the end of the coated path. 3. The exact ratio between wet-film thickness and the coating-blade gap depends on the material used, the viscosity and texture of the liquid, the pressure applied to the coating blade, the coating speed, and the geometric shape of the coating edge. 4. Measure the actual wet-film thickness with a wet-film thickness gauge and adjust the gap until the required wet-film thickness is achieved. Maintenance: 1. Clean the instrument immediately after each use with suitable solvents. 2. Both ends of the doctor blade move in the groove. Keep the groove free of sample material at all times. 3. Reposition the differential heads when necessary. To correct wear or displacement, lower or raise the components. This can be done by loosening and removing the two concealed mounting screws on each differential head.
