Soda-lime glass is known to be chemically inert and resistant to alkaline solutions. Soda-lime glass balls have good electrical and corrosion-resistant properties, but they cannot withstand thermal shock. The melting point is approximately 700C. Borosilicate glass is highly resistant to chemicals and heat. Borosilicate glass balls are dimensionally stable, with a melting point of approximately 80C. Glass balls are particularly useful for check valves, visual flow devices, slow-speed bearings, and many laboratory and experimental applications.
