Nichrome wire is an austenitic alloy wire consisting of 80% nickel and 20% chromium. It is suitable for operating temperatures up to 1,200 C and offers good resistance to oxidation and corrosion. This resistance wire also has good formability and ductility. NiCr wire has good electrical conductivity and does not cause an electrical short circuit. It also offers excellent thermal conductivity. It is easy to process by welding, rolling, and stamping. Resistance wire is characterized by high heat resistance up to 1,200 C, excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance, good formability and ductility, non-ferromagnetic properties, and good processability. Based on these properties, NiCr wire is used to manufacture heating elements for industrial electric furnaces, in household appliances such as kitchen stoves and hotplates, and for heating coils in e-cigarettes.
