The shoulder bolt has a well-finished socket head with knurling around the outside, while the hex socket enables fast and secure tightening. The shoulder has a close tolerance on the minus side so that it fits properly into precisely machined holes. The threads are manufactured to a Class 3A fit, which has a higher tolerance than the standard Class 2A fastener thread specification. Socket shoulder bolts are also known as stripper bolts because of their original use in the stripper plate of a stamping press die set.
