Nordmann fir (Abies nordmanniana), 4 years old: a strong young plant for Christmas tree cultivation and the garden. The Nordmann fir is Europes most popular Christmas tree. Its uniform growth, soft, non-prickly needles, and excellent longevity make it equally suitable for cultivation and gardens. These 4-year-old young plants are an ideal size for growing on in Christmas tree plantations or as robust, decorative trees in private gardens. Special features: - 4-year-old young plants - Strong and stable growth - Uniform, dense crown, ideal for Christmas tree cultivation - Soft, dark green, non-prickly needles - Robust, winter-hardy, and easy to care for - Evergreen and decorative year-round Planting and location: Choose a sunny to partially shaded location with deep, humus-rich, moist soil. Container-grown plants can be planted year-round when the ground is frost-free; bare-root plants should be planted in fall or spring. Use loose soil and do not plant too deeply. Improve the soil with humus-rich soil if necessary. For plantations, allow approximately 11.5 m between plants; as a specimen tree in the garden, allow 24 m. Care instructions: Water regularly during the first few years, especially during dry periods. Mulching protects the roots and retains moisture in the soil. Fertilize annually in spring with organic fertilizer or fertilizer specifically for conifers. Pruning is usually unnecessary, but can optionally be used to shape the crown when the plant is young. Protect young plants from browsing by wild animals. Care overview: - Location: Sunny to partially shaded - Soil: Deep, humus-rich, fresh to moderately moist - Water requirement: Regular watering during the first few years - Care requirements: Low; water and protect the plants initially - Pruning: Optional for shaping; otherwise not necessary Growth and characteristics: - Botanical name: Abies nordmanniana - Age: Approximately 4 years - Height: Ultimately 1525 m in a garden, up to 60 m in the wild - Growth habit: Uniform, broad-conical - Needles: Soft, dark green, glossy, with a light underside - Longevity: Several hundred years possible
