MDF stands for medium-density fiberboard. It is a high-quality, dimensionally stable, and affordable material with a smooth surface and dense edges. MDF is very homogeneous and has little natural movement. It should not be confused with particleboard: MDF has much finer fibers and a higher density, making its edges easier to sand and paint. Before painting, the cut edges and surface must be primed and sanded at least twice. Once the pores are properly sealed, the panel can be painted. The paint and primer must be compatible. MDF can be easily sawn, routed, laser-cut, and drilled. It can also be sanded and glued without difficulty. When screwing into MDF, pre-drilling is recommended because the material may split easily at the edges or corners. Warning: Wood is a natural product. Cutting can create tension, which may cause the material to warp slightly. This is not a reason for complaint, as it is beyond our control. Typical applications include furniture manufacturing and series production, kitchen fronts, shopfitting and interior construction, MDF speaker cabinets, hobby and DIY projects, MDF partition walls and shelving, picture and canvas backing boards, and laser-cut or routed MDF lettering and letters. About MDF: MDF was invented in the United States and has been increasingly used in Germany since the 1980s. It is a wood-based material with rapidly growing use and replaces particleboard in many areas. MDF is manufactured from different types of wood whose very fine fibers are bonded and pressed.
